Dr Áine Murphy is the Project Manager for the Irish Prostate Cancer Outcomes Research (IPCOR). Áine is coordinating the establishment of a prostate cancer registry which will collect both clinical and patient-reported data on all men newly diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer in Ireland. The registry will provide evidence-based recommendations to clinicians, hospitals and decision makers and will better inform future care delivery, knowledge of the disease and best use of healthcare innovations and resources. Her role involves overseeing the successful implementation of the project, ensuring compliance with ethics committees and data protection legislation, preparation of annual and clinical reports, development of a dissemination policy and sustainability plan and overall financial management of the project.
Áine gained extensive experience on cancer research projects while at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. As Translational Cancer Research Manager, she was responsible for the coordination of the clinical aspects of a multi-site EU-FP7 funded project aimed at utilising systems biology to deliver personalised medicine for colorectal cancer. Previous to this, Áine worked on projects investigating chemotherapy resistance and identifying cancer therapeutic targets and biomarkers in brain tumours. Áine graduated with a PhD in Neuroimmunology from Trinity College Dublin and holds a Diploma in Management from the Institute of Public Administration, a Higher Diploma in Statistics and a first class degree in Neuroscience from Trinity College Dublin.
