DF/HCC/Gelb Prostate Cancer Tissue Biorepository

The DF/HCC/Gelb Prostate Cancer Tissue Biorepository is a large hospital-based case-series of patients with PCa with extensive clinical follow-up which has been created by researchers and clinicians interested in PCa at the DFCI and BWH. An integrated PCa Clinical Research Information System (Prostate CRIS) was developed and is in use as a research database to collect, store, and access clinical, treatment, and outcomes data coupled to legacy information systems for patients treated at these institutions. As of March 2013, there are 7,873 patients enrolled in the prostate specimen banking study, Protocol 01-045. Blood specimens (with extracted DNA) are available for >5,000 participants. OCT-embedded frozen tissue is available on 1,818 patients through this study. Of the 1,818 patients with OCT-embedded frozen tissue, 1,469 patients have an associated blood sample in the bank, and have provided consent to the release of clinical information, allowing for the linkage of specimens to clinical data. Paraffin tissue blocks can be requested from patients who consented to the release of tissue specimens collected. Of these patients, 1,176 had a prostate biopsy performed at DF/HCC or a DF/HCC Network affiliate; 2,408 patients had a prostatectomy performed at DF/HCC or a DF/HCC Network affiliate.
